tributary a river or stream that flows into a larger river or lake
wetland an area of land where the ground is usually covered with water, such as a swamp, bog, or marsh
commercial related to or engaged in the buying and selling of goods
monopoly exclusive control of a product or service in a particular market
bankrupt to have no money left
inflation a condition in which the price of goods increases as the value of money decreases
infrastructure the basic structures that help communities run, such as roads, ports, aqueducts, powerplants, cell towers, etc.
judicial related to the legal system and to judgments made in a court of law
emancipate to set free from slavery or from other bondage
Creole a person born in Louisiana, but usually of French heritage
immigrant a person who moves from one country to live in another country
treaty a formal, written agreement between peoples or nations
