TermDefinition
Homeostasis The bodys ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite changes in the external environment
Negative Feedback A control mechanism that reverses a change to keep the bodys condition stable
Atom The smallest unit of matter that make up elements example-hydrogen, oxygen, carbon atoms.
Molecule A group of atoms bonded together. Example- water or glucose
Diffusion The movement of particles from an area of high concentration to low concentration until they are evenly spread out.
osmosis The movement of water through a selective permeable membrane from an are of low solute concentration to a high solute concentration
Cell Membrane A thin barrier that surrounds the cell, controlling what enters and leaves also called the plasma membrane
Tissue A group of similar cells that work together to perform a specific function
Integumentary system The body system made up of the skin, hair, and nails. It protects the body helps regulate tempertaure and sense of touch
Epidermis The outermost layer of the skin that provides a waterproof barrier and creates skin tone.
