Peripheral Nervous System the sensory and motor neurons that connect the central nervous system to the rest of the body

Sensory (afferent) neurons Neurons that carry incoming info from the bodys tissue and sensory receptors to the brain and spinal cord
Motor(efferent) Neurons Neurons that carry on going info from the brain and spinal cord to muscles and glands
Inter Neurons Neurons withn the brain and spinal cord they communicate internally and process info between the sensory inputs and motor outputs
sympathetic nervous system arouses body preoares for the flight or flight response at a time when there may be a danger
The parasympathetic nervous system like a parachute calms the body down and brings it back to a normal resting state
Neuron a nerve cell the basic building block of the nervous system
cell body the part of a neroun that contains the nucleus the cells life support center
dependrites a neurons often bush branching extensions that receive and integrate messages conducting impulses towards the cell body,
axon the segmented neuron extension that passes messages through its branches to other neurons or to muscles or glans.
Myelin sheath a fatty tissue layer encasing the axons of some neurons slower reaction time
neurotransmitters chemical messengers that cross the synaptic gap between neurons, They travel across the synapse and bind to reception sites on the receiving neurons there by influencing weather the neuron will generate a neural impulse.
