Homeostasis The body’s way of keeping things stable inside (like temperature, pH, blood pressure), even when the outside changes.
Negative feedback loop A process that reverses a change to bring the body back to normal (ex. sweating when hot to cool down).
Positive feedback loop A process that increases a change (ex. during childbirth, contractions increase until birth).
Enzymes Proteins that speed up chemical reactions in the body.
Key functions of enzymes? Speed up (catalyze) reactions,Work best at specific temperatures & pH,Are reusable.
What are the 3 main layers of skin? Epidermis – outer layer Dermis – middle layer Hypodermis – deepest layer
How many Strata are in the epidermis? 5 strata, Stratum basale, Stratum spinosum, Stratum granulosum, Stratum lucidum , Stratum corneum
Main functions of the skin? Protects, regulates temp, senses, excretes waste, makes vitamin D
Atrophy When muscles or bones shrink or get weaker because they’re not being used.
Hypertrophy When muscles or bones grow bigger and stronger because they’re used a lot or exercised.
