QuestionAnswer
What is homeostasis? It means keeping the body’s inside conditions balanced and regulated.
What is negative feedback? It fixes changes to bring the body back to normal (like cooling down when you’re hot).
What is the cell membrane? A thin layer that controls what goes in and out of the cell.
What is diffusion? When molecules move from high concentration to low concentration.
What are muscles made of? Muscle fibers with actin and myosin that help them contract.
What is the sliding filament theory? It says muscles shorten when actin and myosin slide past each other.
What are bones made of? Mostly calcium, phosphorus, and collagen (a strong protein).
How many bones are in the adult human body? 206 bones.
What are the two main parts of the skeleton? The axial skeleton (skull, spine, ribs) and the appendicular skeleton (arms, legs, hips, shoulders).
What is bone marrow? A soft tissue inside bones that makes blood cells.
What is cartilage? A smooth, flexible tissue that covers the ends of bones and reduces friction in joints.
What are the three types of muscle tissue? Skeletal, smooth, and cardiac muscle.
What mineral keeps bones strong? Calcium
What makes up the integumentary system? The skin, hair, nails, sweat glands, and oil glands.
What are the three main layers of the skin? Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis (subcutaneous layer).
What is melanin? A pigment in the skin that gives it color and helps protect against UV rays.
What vitamin does the skin help make when exposed to sunlight? Vitamin D.
What causes acne? Oil and dead skin cells clogging the pores.
