| chlorophyll | green pigment which allows plants to absorb sunlight |
| chloroplasts | organelles where photosynthesis takes place |

| xylem | transports water and nutrients from the roots to the leaves |
| phloem | transports food from the leaves to the rest of the plant |
| stoma | small openings in a leaf where CO2 enters |
| guard cells | control the opening and closing of the stoma |
| green leaf | the factory where photosynthesis happens. |
| radiant energy | comes from the sun |
| producer | an organism that can make its own food |
| consumer | an organism that can't make its own food |

| nucleus | the organelle that is the control center of the cell, directs activities in the cell |

| cell wall | a rigid layer that surrounds the cells of plants. (only in plants) |
