What are body membranes? List the different types. Thin tissue layers that cover surfaces, line cavities, and divide spaces or organs. 1. Cutaneous (skin) 2. Serous (serosa) 3. Mucous (mucosa)
What are the 4 layers of the epiphyseal plate? 1. "Resting" cartilage cells 2. Zone of proliferation 3. Zone of hypertrophy 4. Zone of calcification
What is the function of fontanels? Allows the fetal skull to "mold" during the birth process and allows for rapid growth of the brain.
What are the pelvic differences between the male and female skeleton? Male - deep and funnel-shaped, with a narrow pubic arch Female - shallow, broad, and flaring, with a wider pubic arch
What are the functional classes of joints? 1. Synarthroses - immovable joints 2. Amphiarthroses - slightly movable joints 3. Diarthroses - freely moveable joints
What is the function of a T tubule? Allows electrical impulses traveling along the sarcolemma to move deeper into the cell.
