ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) The main energy currency of the cell used to power cellular processes
Effector Carries out commands to restore balance
Receptor Detects a stimulus or change in physiological condition
Sympathetic division Part of the autonomic nervous system that triggers fight or flight reactions
Parasympathetic division Promotes rest and restores balance
Active transport Requires ATP to move substances against a concentration gradient
Homeostasis The process of maintaining a stable internal environment despite external changes
Physiology The scientific study of how living organisms and their body parts function to sustain life
Negative feedback A regulatory mechanism that reverses deviations from a set point ( lowering high body temp)
Positive feedback A response that strengthens a change until a specific outcome occurs (contractions during childbirth)
