Definition
what is energy? energy is the ability to do work
what is transformed energy? the process of converting energy from one form into another
what is transferred energy? the movement of energy from one place to another
what is kinetic energy? kinetic energy is the energy of motion
what is potential energy? potential energy is energy stored in objects
what is gravitational energy? potential energy of a object elevated above the ground
what is chemical energy? the potential energy stored in the bonds between atoms and molecules
what is elastic energy? the potential energy stored in an object when elastic is deformed by stretching, compressing, or twisting it
what is the top and bottom of the Sankey Diagram the top is useful energy and bottom is wasted energy
what is condution? when heat is transferred through direct contact between two solid objects
what is convection? when heat is transferred in liquids or gases
what is radiation? the emission of energy as electromagnetic waves
what happens to radiant heat? Reflected, Transmitted or Absorbed
where are places where heat is lost in your house? floorboard gaps, windows and doors
how do you prevent heat loss in your house? improving insulation and sealing air gaps
conductors of heat are? materials that allow heat to pass through them easily, such as metals
what are some insulators of heat? fiberglass, wood and plastic
how does a convection heater work at home? drawing cool air into the bottom of the unit, passing it over an internal heating element, and then releasing the warmed air from the top
what is the law of conservation? energy that cannot be created or destroyed, only transformed and transferred from one form to another
what is nuclear energy? a form of energy released from the nucleus made up of protons and neutrons
what is electrical energy? the energy of moving charged particle
what is heat energy? energy that causes objects to gain temperature
what is light energy? a form of electromagnetic radiation that travels in waves
what is sound energy? energy carried by the air and detected by the ear
