What is the function of enzymes? To catalyze chemical reactions in the body
What is a bursa, and what does it do? Pillow like structure in some synovial joints, absorbs shock/reduces friction in joints
What is the largest and most commonly injured joint in the body? The knee
In the context of feedback loops, what does feed-forward mean? Information will move forward to another process to trigger change in anticipation of something
What does afferent mean? A signal moving toward a specific point of reference
What is glycogen and what is its role? a polymer of glucose, stored energy in the muscles for immediate use
What is the function of red bone marrow? blood cell production
When does meiosis happen vs. mitosis? meiosis: sex cell division, mitosis: regular cell division
what is the result of meiosis? 4 daughter cells that are haploid (23 chromosomes)
What is lactate? an incompletely catabolized cell that is the result of anaerobic respiration, by product of energy production
