Anatomy week 7 (Nervous System)
| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| Where is the Central Nervous System (CNS) Located? | In the brain and spinal cord |
| What is the function of the Central Nervous System? | The CNS integrates incoming pieces of sensory information, evaluates the information, and initiates an outgoing response. |
| Where is the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) located? | Everywhere besides the brain and spinal cord |
| What is the function of the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)? | The PNS connects the CNS to the rest of the body, such as the limbs, organs, and skin. It acts like a communication network that carries messages back and forth. |
| Afferent Division | Incoming sensory or afferent pathways (arrives at brain) |
| Efferent Division | Outgoing motor or efferent pathways (Exits from brain) |
| What are the two roles of the Somatic Nervous System? | 1. Sensory (afferent) function: - Carries sensory information from receptors (like in your skin, muscles, and joints) to the CNS 2. Motor (efferent) function: - Carries motor commands from the CNS to skeletal muscles to produce voluntary movement. |
| Does the SNS control voluntary movements? | Yes |
