Where is the Central Nervous System (CNS) Located? In the brain and spinal cord
What is the function of the Central Nervous System? The CNS integrates incoming pieces of sensory information, evaluates the information, and initiates an outgoing response.
Where is the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS) located? Everywhere besides the brain and spinal cord
What is the function of the Peripheral Nervous System (PNS)? The PNS connects the CNS to the rest of the body, such as the limbs, organs, and skin. It acts like a communication network that carries messages back and forth.
Afferent Division Incoming sensory or afferent pathways (arrives at brain)
Efferent Division Outgoing motor or efferent pathways (Exits from brain)
What are the two roles of the Somatic Nervous System? 1. Sensory (afferent) function: - Carries sensory information from receptors (like in your skin, muscles, and joints) to the CNS 2. Motor (efferent) function: - Carries motor commands from the CNS to skeletal muscles to produce voluntary movement.
Does the SNS control voluntary movements? Yes
