15th Amendment prohibits denying any citizen the right to vote based on "race, color, or previous condition of servitude"; passed immediately after the Civil War and essentially gave the right to vote to all black men 21+ years old
19th Amendment prohibits the federal and state governments from denying a citizen the right to vote based on their sex; gave all women 21+ the right to vote
24th Amendment it abolished and forbade the federal and state governments from imposing poll taxes on voters during federal elections
26th Amendment extended the right to vote to U.S. citizens aged 18 or older; ratified during the Vietnam War as men 18-20 years old were being drafted into war but could not vote
Civil Rights Act of 1964 ended racial segregation across the American South and outlawed discrimination based on race, color, religion, sex, or national origin
Voting Rights Act of 1965 prohibited racial discrimination in voting; it eliminated state and local legal barriers that had historically prevented African Americans and other minority groups from exercising their right to vote
Civil Rights Act of 1968 outlawed discrimination in the sale, rental, and financing of housing based on race, color, religion, and national origin. It also added provisions that made it illegal to intimidate or interfere with someone's rights and also made it illegal to riot
