Dystopia Vocabulary

TermDefinition
Utopia an imagined place or society in which everything is perfect; "no place."
Dystopia an imagined, often futuristic society, which has developed into a negative version of a utopia; "bad place."
Protagonist the main character in a story.
Antagonist the character struggling against the main character in a story.
Flashback going back to a previous event or time period in a story.
Foreshadow hinting at something that will happen in the future in a story.
Conformity behavior in accordance with socially accepted standards, rules, or laws.
Rebellion the action or process of resisting authority, control, or laws.
Corruption the act of participation in dishonest practices.
Propaganda information, especially of a biased or misleading nature, used to promote a particular cause, doctrine, or point of view.
Figurehead a leader or a position of power but which has no real power or authority.
Illusion something that deceives or misleads by producing a false Impression or reality.
Dehumanization to regard, represent, or treat as less than human.
Censorship the suppression o removal of writing, artistic works, etc., that are considered obscene, politically unacceptable, or a threat to security.
Surveillance to keep watch over a person or group or activity in order to gather information.
Dissent to differ in sentiment or opinion from the majority.
Oppressive burdensome, unjustly harsh, or tyrannical.
Bureaucratic relating to the business of running and operating of an organization; overly concerned with procedure at the expense of efficiency or common sense.
