| What is Feed Forward control and how does it help the body? | Feed forward control anticipates changes before they happen. It sends signals ahead of time to prepare the body for an expected event (ex: body smells food and saliva is produced in the mouth). |
| Describe the difference between DNA and RNA | DNA stores genetic information and has a double helix with bases A,T,C,G and sugar deoxyribose. RNA helps make proteins, is single stranded with bases A,U,C,G, and sugar ribose. |
| What are the three stages of cellular respiration? | Glycolysis, Citric Acid Cycle (Krebs cycle), and Electron Transport System |
| What are enzymes and how do they work in cell metabolism? | Enzymes are protein catalysts that speed up chemical reactions by lowering activation energy. Enzymes use "lock and key" model to bind, they are specific, reusable, and are affected by temperature, pH, cofactors and end products. |
| Mitosis vs. Meiosis | Mitosis - makes 2 identical diploid body cells for growth and repair. Meiosis - Makes 4 unique haploid sex cells for reproduction |
| How are proteins make in a cell? | Transcription DNA - mRNA in the nucleus Translation mRNA - protein at ribosome using tRNA and amino acids |
| What is the Extracellular Matrix and its function? | The ECM is material between cells made of water, collagen, elastin, and proteoglycans. It supports, connects, and communicates between cells giving tissues strength, structure, and coordination. |
| What are the four types of skin glands and their function? | Eccrine (sweat gland), Apocrine (scent glands), Sebaceous (oil glands), Ceruminous (ear wax) |
| What are the four main types of fibrous connective tissue and their function? | Loose (flexible, stretchy connection), Adipose (stores fat, insulates, protects, and produces leptin), Reticular (filters harmful substances and supports immune cells), Dense (strong, flexible connections ion tendons and ligaments). |
| What are the three types of muscle tissue? | Skeletal (striated, voluntary), Smooth (non striated, involuntary), Cardiac (striated, involuntary, has intercalated disks) |
| Condylar process: | Part of each ramus that articulates with the mandibular fossa of the temporal bone |
| Three bones that make the coal bone: | Ilium (largest and uppermost), Ischium (strongest and lowermost), Pubis (most anterior) |
