| diffusion | spreading; natural tendency of small particles to spread out evenly within any given space |
| dialysis | seperation of smaller (diffusable) particles from larger (nondiffusable) particles through a semipermeable membrane |
| adipose tissue | fat tissue, fat storing tissue |
| dendrite | branching or treelike nerve cell process that receives input from other neurons and transmits toward the cell body |
| hypodermis | loose layer fascia under the skin, rich in fat and areolar tissue located beneath the dermis; also called subcutaneous layer |
| contractillity | ability, as of muscle cell, to contract or shorten to produce movement |
| extensability | ability of a muscle to extend or stretch and return to resting length |
| motor neuron | nerve cell that transmits nerve impulses from the brain and spinal cord to muscles and glandular epithelial tissues |
