What is the concept of maintaining stable internal conditions in the body called? Homeostasis
Why is homeostasis important? Because cells cannot function properly if temperature, pressure, oxygen, or other internal conditions change too much
What are the main types of biomolecules found in the human body? Carbohydrates, lipids, and proteins
What is the basic structural and functional unit of life? The cell
What is the cell membrane’s main role? To regulate what enters and leaves the cell (cell membrane transport)
What is cell metabolism? The sum of all chemical reactions in the cell that provide energy and build essential molecules
What two main processes make up the cell life cycle? Cell growth and cell reproduction
What can errors in cell reproduction cause? Genetic disorders, cancer, or other serious conditions
What is a tissue? A group of similar cells that perform a common function
What are the four basic tissue types in the human body? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue
What are articulations (joints)? Points of contact between bones that either stabilize the skeleton or allow movement
What are the three main functions of muscle tissue? Movement, posture maintenance, and heat production
