Vocab Quiz - Science

Unit 1 Vocabulary Quiz

TermDefinition
Claim - A statement that answers the questions. Usually only 1 sentence. No because/ explanation.
Evidence - Data used to support the claim. Either quantitative or qualitative depending on the question and/or lab.
Variable - anything that can change in an experiment
Independent Variable - the variable that is purposely changed in an experiment (the one that is being tested)
Dependent Variable - the variable that you are measuring (in response to the independent variable)
Controlled Experiment - multiple groups tested where EVERYTHING is EXACTLY the same except for the independent variable
Criteria - Synonym for rules
Constraints - Limitations to what you are allowed to do, use, etc.
Engineering Design Process The process -
STEP 1 - Define the Problem by asking questions: -
STEP 2 - Do Background Research by finding out as much as possible about the problem and learn from the experiences of others.
STEP 3 - Specify Requirements: determine what criteria must the design meet in order to be successful.
STEP 4 - Brainstorm, Evaluate, and Choose a Solution-
STEP 5 - Develop a Prototype Solution
STEP 6 - Communicate Results
