What bones are part of the appendicular skeleton? 1. shoulder girdle- clavicle and scapula 2.arms and hands- humerus, radius, ulna, carpals, metacarpals, phalanges 3. pelvic girdle- hip bones (ilium, ischium, pubis) 4. legs and feet- femur, tibia, fibula, tarsals, metatarsals, phalanges
What are the main functions of the skin? 1. protection 2. temperature control 3. sensation 4. vitamin D production 5. waste removal (through sweat)
What are the main tissues of the skin? 1. epidermis- made of the epithelial tissue (outer layer, protection) 2. dermis- made of connective tissue (strength and support) 3. hypodermis (subcutaneous)- mostly fat /9adipose tissue) fro insulation and energy
What is the extracellular matrix and what is its role? The extracellular matrix (ECM) is a network of proteins and molecules outside of the cell that: support and hold cells.together, provide strength and flexibility to tissue, and help cell communicate and grow
What are the four primary tissue types in the human body and what is their main function? 1. epithelial tissue- covers bode surfaces and lines cavities; protects, absorbs, and secretes 2. connective tissue- supports, protects, and binds other tissue together 3. muscle tissue- responsible for movement through contraction. 4. nervous tissue-
What bones are part of the axial skeleton? 1. skull- protect the brain 2. vertebral column (spine)- protect the spinal cord and support the body 3. rib cage - protect the heart and lungs
What is cytoplasm? The cytoplasm is the jelly like fluid inside the cell that fills the space between the cell membrane and nucleus.
what is the main function of cytoplasm? 1. holds organelles together 2. support cell shape 3. provide a place for many chemical reactions to happen 4. helps move material around the cell
