| Term | Definition |

| Homeostasis | the relatively constant states maintained by the body. |
| Afferent | means that a signal is traveling toward a particular center or point of reference, and efferent means that the signal is moving away from a center or other point of reference. |
| Lipids | are water-insoluble organic bio-molecules. |
| Amino Acids | The elements that make up a protein molecule are bonded together to form chemical units |
| Diffusion | refers to a natural phenomenon caused by the tendency of small particles to spread out evenly within any given space |
| Exocytosis | the process by which large molecules, notably proteins, can leave the cell even though they are too large to move out through the plasma membrane |
| Proteome | The complete set of proteins synthesized by a cell |
| Metaphase | means “position-changing phase” or “in-the-middle phase.” |
| Muscle Tissues | produces movement, moves the body and its parts |
| Ligaments | Fibrous bands that help hold the various bones together into an organized skeleton |
