QuestionAnswer
What does afferent mean? It means that a signal is traveling toward a particular center or point of reference
What is intrinsic control? It is mechanisms that operate at the tissue and organ levels
What are the 3 types or classes of carbohydrates? Monosaccharides, disaccharides, and polysaccharides
What is does hydrophilic and hydrophobic mean? Hydrophilic means water loving and hydrophobic means water fearing
What is Osmosis? Osmosis is the movement of water through a semipermeable membrane
What are the four different kinds of nucleotides that a DNA molecule has? Cytosine, guanine, adenine, and adenine
What are the 4 different tissue types? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue
What percentage of total bone mass in the adult human body is made up of compact bone? 80%
What are osteoclasts? They are giant multinucleate cells that are responsible for the active erosion of bone minerals
What are Myofibrils? They are bundles of very fine cytoskeletal filaments that extend lengthwise along a skeletal muscle fiber and al-most fill the sarcoplasm
