| Satellite | Is a body that orbits a planet. |
| Star | Is a giant ball superheated gas , or plasma, composed of hydrogen and helium. |
| Planet | Spherical, orbits the sun , larger mass than nearby objects |
| Meteor | Is a streak of light produced when a small piece rock or ice burns up as it enters earth atmosphere. |
| Comet | Is a cold mixture of dust and ice that develops a long trail of light as it approaches the sun. |
| Constellation | Group of stars that represent a figure, animal , or a object . |
| Geocentric | Earth - centered model |
| Heliocentric | Sun- centered model |
| Ellipse | An oval shape rather than a perfect circle. |
| Sun | Largest object in our solar system |
| Axis | A imaginary line that passes from the North Pole , through the center of the earth’s center, and to the South Pole. |
| Rotation | The spinning of Earth on its axis |
| Revolution | The movement of one object around another. |
| Orbit | Around the sun is an ellipse. |
| Solstice | One day per year when the sun appears the highest or lowest. |
| Equinox | Neither hemisphere is tilted towards the sun |
| Gravity | A force that attracts all objects toward each other |
| Law of universal gravitation | It states that even object in the universe attracts every other objects and force depends on mass and distance |
| Inertia | Is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion. |
| Gravitation | The fundamental force of attraction between any tow objects that must have mass or energy. |

| Solar eclipse | When the moon passes directly between the earth and sun during a new moon . |
| Lunar eclipse | Occurs during a full moon when Earth is directly between the moon and Sun |
| Umbra | Darkest part of a shadow where light is completely blocked |
| Penumbra | Area of a shadow where light is partially blocked |
| Tide | Daily rise and fall of ocean water |
| Springs tide | Higher high tides during and new moon |
| Neap tide | Lower high tides during the first and third quarter moons |
| Highlands | Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters. |
