Satellite A body that orbits the planet
Star A giant ball of superheated gas or plasma
Planet A object that orbits the sun
Meteor A streak of light produced when a small piece of rock or ice burns up
Comet A cold mixture of dust and ice that develops a long trail of light
Constellation Pattern or groups of stars that people imagine as figures, or animals
Geocentric Earth centered model is known as a geocentric
Heliocentric Before heliocentric they developed a sun centered
Ellipses An oval shape
Sun Center of the solar system
Axis Imaginary line that goes through ,north and South Pole and the earths center.
Rotation Spinning of earth on its axis
Revolution Movement of one object around another
Orbit Moves around things like the sun
Solstice Earth is most tilted towards or away form the sun which causes the loungers or shortest daylight if the year.
Equinox When the sun passes directly overhead at the equator and causes equal day and night
Gravity Force that attracts all objects toward each other
LOU Every object in the universe attracts every other object
Hypothesized The same force that pulls the moon toward earth also pulls apples to the ground
Ellipse Oval shapes or the planets orbits
Intertia Tendency that keeps planets in the motion
Weight Force of gravity on an object
Solar eclipse When moon passes directly between the earth and sun during a new moon
Umbra Darkest part of a shadow where light is completely blocked
Penumbra area of a shadow where light is partially blocked
Tide Daily rise and fall of ocean or sea
Spring tide Higher high tides during a full new moon
Neap tide Lower high tides during the first and third quarters moons
Lunar eclipse Occurs during a full moon when earth is directly between the moon and new moon
Phase Different shape of the moon you see
Maria Dark,smooth, lava covered areas on the moon
Highlands Higher lighter areas on the moons covered with craters
