| Legion | A group of about 6000 foot soldiers in the army of ancient Rome |
| Republic | A government without a monarch |
| Tribune | an official of ancient Rome who protected the rights of the common people |
| Aqueduct | a raised pipe designed to carry water to towns and cities |
| Stoic | a person who endures hardship without comoplaining |
| Gladiator | in ancient Rome, a trained figure who battled other gladiators |
| Circus Maximus | a large, oval, roofless building like a modern sports stadium |
| Mercenary | a hired soldier |
| Vault | a tunnel with a curved roof (longer than an arch) |
