| Satellite | Is a body that orbits a planet. |
| Star | Is a giant ball of superheated gas, plasma, composed, of hydrogen, and helium. |
| Planet | Is an object that orbits the sun, is large enough to have become rounded by its own gravity, and has cleared the area of its orbit of any debris. |
| Meteor | Is a streak of light produced when a small piece of rock and ice burn up. |
| Comet | Is a cold mixture of ice and dust that develops a long trail of light. |
| Constellation | A pattern or group of stars that people imagine represents a figure animal or object. |
| Geocentric | Earth centered model |
| Heliocentric | Sun centered |
| Ellipse | The orbit of each planet, and an oval shape. |
| Sun | The biggest thing in our solar system. |
| Axis | Imaginary line that passes through the North and South Pole. |
| Rotation | Spinning of Earth on its axis. |
| Revolution | Is a movement of one object around another. |
| Orbit | Path planets fallow when they revolve around the sun. |
| Solstice | Earth is directly tilted toward or away from the sun which causes equal day and night. |
| equinox | Earth is not tilted toward the sun which causes equal day and night. |
| Gravity | The force that attracts all objects toward each other. |
| Law of universal gravitation | Every object attracts every other and force depends on mass and distance |
| Inertia | is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion. |

| Solar eclipse | When the moon passes directly between the Earth and sun during a new moon |
| Lunar eclipse | Occurs during a full moon when the earth is directly between the moon and sun |
| Umbra | Darkest part of a shadow where light is completely blocked |
| Penumbra | Area of a shadow where light is partially blocked |
| Tide | Daily rise and fall of ocean water |
| Spring tide | Higher high tides during full and new moons |
| Neap tide | Lower high tides during the first and third quarter moons |
| Maria | Dark smooth lava coverd areas on the moon |
| Highlands | Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters |
