highway hypnosis is... Trance-like state may be avoided by not looking at any one thing for more than a few seconds
Recommended that motorist rest every 2 hours and/or share the driving with another licensed motorist.
For determining safe distances, use the 3 second plus rule
Stopping distance = Perception Distance + Reaction Distance + Braking Distance
During bad weather, the time interval for the 3 second plus rule should be increased to... 4 or more seconds
For passing by another vehicle, you must... Must be careful Stay in proper lane & slow down to make pass easier for other motorist Return to normal speed after passing vehicle is well ahead
Roads are most slippery within the... first few minutes of rainfall

Gently applying brakes while driving slowly will allow motorist to find out... how slippery the road is

To avoid a spin... turn in direction rear of vehicle is skidding, without over steering
When skidding, motorist should... look in direction that he/she wants to go
If vehicle’s wheels drift onto shoulder of road, do not... try to turn back onto pavement right away. (might throw vehicle off balance)
If vehicle’s wheels drift onto shoulder of road, then... stay on shoulder & ease up on & gas pedal
If vehicle runs off pavement: Slow down Regain control Turn slowly onto road
During tire blowout, a motorist should... Hold steering wheel firmly & keep vehicle straight while gradually slowing down Remove foot from gas pedal but don’t use brakes Vehicle should coast to a stop on its own as motorist pulls to a safe area off roadway.
If motorist sees that his/her vehicle may hit something, one of these things can be done Stop Turn Speed up.
