Heliocentric A model of our solar system with everything revolving around the sun
Ellipse Oval shape rather than circle
Sun Largest object in our solar system.
Axis An imaginary line that passes from the North Pole to the South Pole.
Rotation Spinning of earth on its axis.
Revolution Earth rotation around the sun.
Orbits Earth’s path
Solstice one day on one day per year when the sun appears highest in the sky
Equinox Halfway between the solstice neither hemisphere is tilted towards the sun.
Gravity The force that attracts all objects toward each other.
Law of universal gravitation Pull of gravity depends on mass and distance.
Inertia Is a tendency of an object to resist a change in motion.
Phase Different shape of the moon you see
Solar eclipse When the moon passes directly between the earth sun during a new moon
Umbra Darkest part of shadow where light is blocked
Penumbra Area of a shadow here light is partially block
Tide Daily rise and fall of the ocean water
Spring tide Higher high tides during fall and new moons
Neap tide Lower high tides during the first end and third quarter moons
Maria Dark ,smooth ,lava covered areas on the moon
Highlands Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters.
