| Satellite | Is a body that orbits a planet |
| Star | Is a giant ball of superheated gas, or plasma, composed of hydrogen and helium. |
| Planet | Spherical, orbits the sun,with a larger mass than nearby objects. |
| Meteor | Is a streak of light produced when a small peice of rock or ice |
| Comet | Is a cold mixture of dust and ice that develops a long trail of light as it approaches the sun. |
| Geocentric | Earth-centered model |
| Heliocentric | Sun-centered |
| Ellipse | An oval shape |
| Constellation | A pattern or group of stars and given represents a figure,animal,or object. |
| Sun | Largest object in the solar system |
| Axis | Imaginary line that passes from the North Pole, through the Earth’s center, to the South Pole. |
| Rotation | Spinning of earth on its axis |
| Revolution | Is the movement of one object around another |
| Orbit | One revolution of earth around the sun takes one year |
| Solstice | Is one day per year when the sun appears highest in the sky |
| Equinox | Which means “ equal night” |
| gravity | This force that attracts all objects toward each other |
| Law of universal gravitation | States that every object in the universe attracts every other object |
| Inertia | Is the tendency of an object to resist a change in motion |
| Phase | Different shape of the moon you see |
| Solar eclipse | When the moon passes directly between the earth and the sun |
| Lunar eclipse | Occurs during a full moon when Earth is directly between the moon and the sun. |
| Umbra | Darkest part of a shadow where light is completely blocked |
| Penumbra | Area of a shadow where light is particularly blocked |
| Tide | Daily rise and fall of ocean water |
| Spring tide | Higher high tides during full and new moon |
| Neap tide | Lower high tides during the first and third quarter moon |
| Maria | Dark,smooth,lava covered area on the moon |
| Highlands | Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters |
