| Satellite | Is a body that orbits the planet |
| Star | A giant ball superheated gas, or plasma composed of hydrogen |
| Planet | Spherical, orbits the Sun, with a larger mass than nearby objects |
| Comet | is a cold mixture of dust and ice that develops a long trail of light as it approaches the sun |
| Meteor | Is a streak of light produced when a small piece of rock or ice |
| Constellation | A pattern or group of stars |
| Geocentric | an earth -centered model |
| Heliocentric | Sun - centered |
| Ellipse | Oval shape, rather than a perfect circle |
| Sun | Largest object in our solar system |
| axis | Imaginary line that passes from the north pole |
| Rotation | The spinning of earths on its axis |
| Revolution | Is the movement of one object around another |
| Orbit | Earths path Around the sun is ellipse an oval shape |
| Solstice | either the northern or southern hemisphere is at its strongest tilt towards the sun |
| equinox | means “equal night” night and day both are 12 hours |
| Gravity | The force that attracts all objects towards each other |
| Law of universal gravitation | Every object in the universe attracts every object |
| Inertia | The tendency of an object to resist a change in motion |

| Solar eclipse | When the moon passes directly between the earth and sun |
| Lunar eclipse | Occurs during a full moon when earth is directly between the moon and sun |
| Umbra | Darkest part of a shadow where light is completely blocked |
| Penumbra | Area of a shadow where light is partially blocked |
| Tide | Daily rise and fall of water ocean |
| Spring tide | Higher high tides during full and new moons |
| Neap tide | Lower high tide during the first and third quarter moons |
| Maria | Dark, smooth, lava covered areas on the moon |
| Highlands | Higher lighter areas on the moon covered with craters |
