| Tribune | an official of ancient Rome who protected the rights of the common people. |
| Aqueduct | a raised pipe designed to carry water to towns and cities. |
| Stoic | a person who endures hardship without complaining. |
| Gladiator | in ancient Rome, a trained fighter who battled other gladiators. |
| Circus Maximus | a large, oval, roofless building like a modern sports stadium. |
| Mercenary | a hired soldier. |
| Dome | a round, curved roof. |
| Vault | a tunnel with a curved roof (longer than an arch). |
| Arch | a doorway with a curved roof. |
