QuestionAnswer
Both Anatomy and Physiology are branches of biology concerned with the human body. What differentiates Anatomy from Physiology? Anatomy is concerned with the study of body structure while Physiology is concerned with the study of body function.
What is metabolism? It is the process of breaking down food to produce energy and maintain life through a series of chemical reactions
What is the difference between catabolism and anabolism? Catabolism involves breaking down complex molecules into simpler ones while anabolism involves building complex molecules from simpler ones
How many cells does a human body have? The number of cells is estimated at 100,000 billion in a 150 pound adult human body.
What is the function of the cell cytoplasm? It fills the cell, maintains its shape, and houses all cell's structures apart from the nucleus. It also facilitates the transport of materials throughout the cell
What is the interaction between structure and function of the body? Their relationship is a fundamental biological principle where the structure of a body part including its shape, form and size determines its function, while function can shape the structure of body organs over time.
What is the difference between endocrine and exocrine glands? Endocrine glands release hormones directly into the bloodstream without the need of ducts while exocrine glands use ducts to release their products.
What is the importance of skin glands? Skin glands are involved in regulating body temperature, providing protection and maintaining a healthy skin through lucrication
What are the two principal subdivisions of the human skeleton? The axial which consists of the vertebral column including the spine and skull, and the appendicular, which consists of the pelvic and shoulder girdles, as well as bones and cartilages of the limbs.
What is the importance of the human skeleton? It provides shape and support for the body, and it protects the internal organs such as the brain and heart. It also works with muscles to facilitate movement.
