TermDefinition
Anatomy The branch of biology that deals with the structure of organisms and their parts
Physiology The study of the functions and processes of the body’s structures.
Homeostasis The maintenance of a stable internal environment within an organism despite changes in external conditions.
Tissue A group of cells that work together to perform a specific function. The four primary types are epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
Organ A structure made up of two or more types of tissues that work together to perform specific functions.
System A group of organs that work together to carry out complex functions essential for life
Sagittal Plane A vertical plane that divides the body into right and left parts.
Coronal Plane A vertical plane that divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) sections.
Transverse Plane A horizontal plane that divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts.
Cell Membrane The thin, flexible barrier that surrounds the cell, controlling the movement of substances in and out.
