TermDefinition
Plasma membrane The outer boundary that controls what enters and exits the cel
Cytoplasm The jelly-like substance inside the cell that contains the organelles. It is the site of many chemical reactions
Nucleus The cell's control center, containing the cell's DNA and controlling cell functions
Mitochondria The "powerhouses" of the cell, responsible for generating most of the cell's supply of energy
Ribosomes Structures that synthesize protein
Endoplasmic Reticulum A network of membranes involved in making proteins and lipids
Golgi apparatus Modifies, sorts, and packages proteins and lipids for transport
Lysosomes Contain enzymes that break down waste materials and cellular debris
Cytoskeleton A network of protein fibers that provides structure and shape to the cell
Nucleolus Condensed region where ribosomes are formed
Nuclear Envelope Membrane enclosing the nucleus. protein lines pores allow material to move in and out
chromatin Dna plus associated protein
Peroxisome Metabolizes waste
