What is midsagittal plane ? an imaginary line that runs straight down the middle of the body and divides it into equal left and right sides that mirror each other.
What does the hydrogen isotope tritium consists of ? one proton and two neutrons.
An example of a catabolic process is ? cellular respiration or the breakdown of glucose for energy.
What is the function of the cell membrane? It controls what enters and leaves the cell and helps protect and support the cell.
What part of the cell contains the genetic material (DNA)? The nucleus stores DNA and controls the cell’s activities.
What is the role of the mitochondria? The mitochondria are the “powerhouses” of the cell that produce energy (ATP) through cellular respiration.
What are the four main types of body tissues? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
Which type of tissue makes up the outer layer of the skin? Epithelial tissue, specifically stratified squamous epithelium, which protects against friction and dehydration.
What layer of the skin contains connective tissue, blood vessels, and nerves? The dermis, which supports and nourishes the epidermis and gives skin its strength and flexibility.
What is the main function of connective tissue in the skin? It supports, connects, and provides structure to other tissues while helping supply nutrients and remove waste.
What are the two main divisions of the human skeleton? The axial skeleton and the appendicular skeleton.
What is the main function of skeletal tissue (bone)? To support the body, protect organs, store minerals, and produce blood cells.
What type of bone tissue is dense and provides strength? Compact bone.
What type of bone tissue is lightweight and found at the ends of long bones? Spongy bone.
What is the tough outer membrane that covers the surface of bones? The periosteum, which helps nourish the bone and serves as an attachment site for tendons and ligaments.
