What is the difference between anatomy and physiology? Anatomy is the study of body structure, while physiology is the study of body function.
What is the origin of the word "anatomy"? The word "anatomy" comes from Greek words meaning “to cut apart.”
What is dissection, and why is it important in the study of anatomy? Dissection is the process of cutting apart an organism to study its structures. It helps students learn about the organization and relationships of body parts.
How are structure and function related in the human body? Structure fits function—body parts are shaped in ways that allow them to perform specific functions effectively.
What are the basic structural levels of organization in the human body? The basic levels include atoms, molecules, organelles, cells, tissues, organs, organ systems, and the entire organism.
Why is chemistry important for understanding anatomy and physiology? Chemistry explains the structure and behavior of atoms and molecules, which make up all living matter and support life processes.
What is biochemistry? Biochemistry is a branch of chemistry that studies the chemical composition and processes of living organisms.
Approximately how many cells are in the human body? There are about 100 trillion (100,000,000,000,000) cells in the human body
What are the main structural components found in a cell? Each cell has a membrane, cytoplasm, organelles, and usually a nucleus.
What are articulations, and why are they important? Articulations, or joints, are points where bones meet. They help stabilize the skeleton and allow movement.
