| Term | Definition |

| Anatomy | The study of the structure and relationships of the parts of the body, such as organs, bones, and tissues |
| Physiology | The study of how the body parts function and work together to keep the body alive and healthy. |
| Cell membrane | A thin layer that surrounds the cell, controlling what enters and exits, and protecting the cell from its surroundings. |
| Mitochondrion | Known as the “powerhouse” of the cell, it produces energy through cellular respiration. |
| Articular Cartilage | Smooth tissue at the ends of bones that helps reduce friction and allows easy joint movement. |
| Spongy Bone | The porous, lightweight bone tissue found inside bones that helps absorb impact and stores red bone marrow. |
| Epiphyseal Line | A remnant of the growth plate in mature bones where bone growth in length once occurred. |
| Epidermis | The outermost layer of the skin that acts as a protective barrier against bacteria, chemicals, and UV rays. |
| Dermis | The thick middle layer of skin that contains blood vessels, hair follicles, and sweat glands, helping regulate temperature. |
| Melanocytes | Specialized skin cells that produce melanin, the pigment that gives skin its color and protects it from UV radiation. |
