Carbon most important building block to living matter; found in all living organisms
Ionic Bond chemical bond formed by the transfer of electrons from one atom to another
Covalent Bond chemical bond formed by the sharing of one or more pairs of electrons
pH the power of hydrogen; relative H+ ion concentration of a solution
Acidic elevated concentration of H+ ions; pH decreases
Alkaline decreased concentration of H+ ions; pH increases
Arrector pili muscle controls hair movement
Tendon muscle to bone
Ligament bone to bone
Osteoblasts bone forming cells
Osteoclasts bone breaking down cells
Diaphysis main shaft of long bone
Epiphyses proximal & distal ends of long bone
1st class levers fulcrum lies between pull & load
2nd class levers load lies between fulcrum & joint at which the pull is exerted
3rd class levers most common type; pull is exerted between the fulcrum & load
