QuestionAnswer
Anatomy The study of body structure. How body parts are organized and their relationships to one another.
Physiology The study of body function. How body parts work and carry out life-sustaining activities.
Sagittal, Coronal, and Transverse Planes Sagittal: Divides the body into left and right parts. Coronal: Divides the body into front and back. Transverse: Divides the body into top and bottom sections.
Chemistry of Life The study of chemical substances and processes that make up living organisms.
Four Major Elements in the Body Oxygen, Carbon, Hydrogen, and Nitrogen
Cell The smallest and most numerous structural unit of life, about 100 trillion cells make up the human body
Cell Membrane The outer boundary of the cell that controls what enters and leaves, it maintains the internal environment
Organelles Specialized structures within the cell that perform specific functions necessary for life
Tissue Types The body has four main tissue types: epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous
Skeletal Tissues The skeleton is made of bone and cartilage, two types of connective tissue that support, protect, and enable movement.
