How do nitrates treat angina? What are common side effects? What type of drugs should you know about in the last 24 hours? Treats angina by reducing myocardial O2 demand, reducing both preload and afterload. Common SE: Headache and hypotension. Should get drug history if any phosphodiesterase were used.
How many times can nitrostat be given in what interval? NItrostat can be given 3 times over 5 minute intervals.
What is a long acting nitrate? Isosorbide mononitrate tabs
How long does aspirin stay in your system? 1 week
When is morphine typically given with angina? After nitrates are not effective.
What does metoprolol do? Reduces infarct size, given 3x via IV then switch to PO
In metoprolol OD what do you do? Treat the symptoms. Give atropine if HR is low.
What do ace inhibitors do for patients with left ventricular dysfunction? They increase survival and reduce morbidity and mortality in patients with left ventricular dysfunction
When are ARBs typically used (Losartan) When patientt cannot tolerate ace inhibitors(pmhx of cough or angioedema)
What is the class of clopidogrel? What does it do? Clopidogrel is an antiplatelet, reduces thrombi formation in pts that have had thromboembolic events. Used off label in coronary stenting.
