Hypochondriac means: under cartilage, referring to the rib cartilage
Epigastric means: upon (around) the stomach
What is a free radical It is a functional group that is temporarily unattached and is highly reactive because of unpaired electrons.
Hydrophobic means: Water fearing
Hydrophilic means: Water loving
What happens to a cell in hypertonic solution. It loses water by osmosis and shrivels. If it shrivels too much, it may become permanently damaged and die.
What is the basement membrane A thin, gluelike connection between a sheet of epithelial cells and the underlying fibrous connective tissue.
What is the basal lamina A thin, flat network of fibers secreted by the basal membrane of epithelial cells that remain connected to the cells.
What are the 3 types of epithelial tissue membranes in the body. 1. cutaneous membrane, 2. serous membranes and 3. mucous membranes.
What is Dense fibrous tissue It consists mainly of fibers packed densely in the matrix.
