What is Anatomy? Study of the structure of an organism and the relationships of its parts.
What is DNA? Deoxyribonucleic acid- which is the molecule inside every living thing that contains all the information about that thing
What are the levels of organization in the human body from simplest to most complex? Chemical-Cellular- Tissue- System- Organism
What is the main function of enzymes in the body? They speed up chemical reactions by lowering activation energy.
What is homeostasis and why is it important? Homeostasis is the body's ability to maintain stable internal conditions despite external changes, ensuring proper cell function.
What role does water play in the body? Water acts as a solvent, aids in temperature regulation and is essential for chemical reactions.
What is the function of the plasma membrane? It controls what enters and leaves the cell and helps maintain the internal environment.
Which organelle is known as the "powerhouse" of the cell and why? The Mitochondrion: it produces ATP, the main energy source for cellular activities.
What are the four main tissues in the human body? Epithelial, connective, muscle and nervous tissue.
What is the main function of epithelial tissue? It covers body surfaces, lines cavities and forms glands for protection and secretion.
What are the three main layers of the skin? Epidermis- Dermis- Subcutaneous (hypodermis)
What are the two major functions of the integumentary system? Protection against injury and infection and regulation of body temperature.
What are the five basic survival needs of the human body? Water, food, oxygen, body temperature regulation and atmospheric pressure.
What is the difference between an ionic bond and a covalent bond? Ionic bonds involve the transfer of electrons between atoms: covalent bonds involve the sharing of electrons.
