TermDefinition
Dorsal cavity The body cavity that encloses the brain and spinal cord in one continuous space.
Ventral Cavity The body cavity located on the anterior side, which includes the thoracic and abdominopelvic cavities.
Coronal Plane A vertical plane that divides the body into anterior (front) and posterior (back) sections.
Centrosome The area of cytoplasm near the nucleus that organizes microtubules and is key for cell division.
Golgi Apparatus Membranous organelle that modifies, packages, and distributes proteins from the rough ER; has a cis and trans face.
Peroxisome Membranous organelle containing oxidase and catalase enzymes that break down toxins and fatty acids.
Osteon The cylinder-shaped structural unit of compact bone.
Stratum Corneum The most superficial layer of the epidermis, composed of keratinized cells.
Fibrocartilage Strong cartilage that contains abundant collagen fibers; found in intervertebral discs and symphysis pubis.
Myeloid Tissue Specialized soft connective tissue in bones that produces blood cells; also called bone marrow.
