What are the levels of structural organization in the human body Chemical, cellular, tissue, organ, organ system, organism.
What is the primary function of the integumentary system? To protect the body, regulate temperature, and provide sensory information.
What is the basic unit of matter? The atom.
What are the four major macromolecules in the human body? Carbohydrates, lipids, proteins, nucleic acids.
Define a chemical bond. A force that holds two or more atoms together in a molecule.
What is the function of the mitochondria? They produce energy (ATP) for the cell through cellular respiration.
What is the role of the nucleus in a cell? The nucleus controls the cell's activities and contains the cell's genetic material (DNA).
What are ribosomes responsible for in the cell? Ribosomes synthesize proteins by translating messenger RNA.
What are the four basic types of tissue in the human body? Epithelial, connective, muscle, and nervous tissue.
What is the main function of epithelial tissue? To cover and protect the body and its organs.
What are the main layers of the skin? Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis.
What are the two types of bone tissue? Compact bone and spongy bone
What is the primary function of the skeletal system? To support and protect the body, facilitate movement, store minerals, and produce blood cells
