QuestionAnswer
How does the endocrine system differ from the nervous system in terms of response time and duration? The endocrine system has a slower response time but its effects are longer-lasting than those of the nervous system.
Name some key endocrine glands. Key glands include the pituitary gland, thyroid gland, adrenal glands, pancreas, and gonads.
what is anatomy? The study of the structure of body parts and their relationship to one another.
What is an anatomical position? posture where the body is erect with feet slightly apart, palms face forward, and thumbs point away from the body.
Sagittal Plane? A vertical plane that divides the body into right and left parts.
midsagittal plane? plane divides it into equal right and left halves.
Transverse plane? A horizontal plane that divides the body into superior (upper) and inferior (lower) parts.
What is a tissue? A group of similar cells specialized to perform a specific function.
Epithelial Tissue? A sheet of cells that covers body surfaces, lines body cavities, and forms glands.
Connective Tissue? A diverse tissue that supports, protects, and binds together other tissues.
Muscle Tissue? Tissue specialized for contraction, producing movement.
what is Osseous tissue? A hard, mineralized connective tissue that forms the skeleton.
what are joints? The site where two or more bones meet.
Synovial joint? joint that allows for free movement and is characterized by a joint cavity containing synovial fluid.
Ligament? A cord of dense fibrous connective tissue that connects bones.
Tendon? A cord of dense fibrous connective tissue that attaches a muscle to a bone.
What is Bursae? Flattened, fibrous sacs lined with a synovial membrane and containing a thin film of synovial fluid, which reduces friction between structures.
Skeletal Muscle? muscle that attaches to and covers the bony skeleton.
Cardiac Muscle involuntary muscle found in the walls of the heart.
Smooth Muscle Non-striated, involuntary muscle found in the walls of visceral
Endomysium connective tissue sheath that surrounds the entire muscle.
Prime Mover (Agonist)? A muscle that has the major responsibility for producing a specific movement.
Lever System In anatomy, bones act as levers and joints act as fulcrum
Spinal Cord nerve fibers and associated tissue that is enclosed within the spine and connects all parts of the body to the brain.
Brain Stem the cerebrum and cerebellum to the spinal cord and consists of the midbrain, pons, and medulla oblongata.
