Homeostasis The body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes ex. Maintaining body temp or blood sugar levels
Negative Feedback A control mechanism that reverses a change in physiological condition to maintain balance ex. Sweating to cool the body
Cell Membrane The protective barrier of a cell that regulates what enters and leaves; composed of a phospholipid bilayer and proteins
Mitosis A process of cell division that results in two identical daughter cells; essential for growth and tissue repair
Epithelial Tissue Tissue that covers body surfaces, lines organs, and forms glands; functions include protection, absorption, and secretion
Skeletal Muscle A type of muscle tissue attached to bones; voluntary and striated, responsible for body movement
Neuron The basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system that transmits electrical impulses
Synapse The junction between two neurons where neurotransmitters carry signals across the gap
Bone Marrow Soft connective tissue inside bones; red marrow forms blood cells, while yellow marrow stores fat
Joint The location where two or more bones meet; classified by movement type (immovable, slightly movable, or freely movable)
