| Homeostasis | The body’s ability to maintain a stable internal environment despite external changes ex. Maintaining body temp or blood sugar levels |
| Negative Feedback | A control mechanism that reverses a change in physiological condition to maintain balance ex. Sweating to cool the body |
| Cell Membrane | The protective barrier of a cell that regulates what enters and leaves; composed of a phospholipid bilayer and proteins |
| Mitosis | A process of cell division that results in two identical daughter cells; essential for growth and tissue repair |
| Epithelial Tissue | Tissue that covers body surfaces, lines organs, and forms glands; functions include protection, absorption, and secretion |
| Skeletal Muscle | A type of muscle tissue attached to bones; voluntary and striated, responsible for body movement |
| Neuron | The basic structural and functional unit of the nervous system that transmits electrical impulses |
| Synapse | The junction between two neurons where neurotransmitters carry signals across the gap |
| Bone Marrow | Soft connective tissue inside bones; red marrow forms blood cells, while yellow marrow stores fat |
| Joint | The location where two or more bones meet; classified by movement type (immovable, slightly movable, or freely movable) |
