| Question | Answer |
|---|---|
| What is Weather? | The condition of Earth's atmosphere at a specific time and place |
| What is Climate? | The average or overall condition of the atmosphere over long period of time |
| What is Conduction? | Heat transfer through direct contact |
| What is Convection? | Heat transfer through the motion of liquids and gases |
| What is Radiation? | Heat transfer that travels through waves |
| Dark colors? | Absorb more heat from the sun than lighter color objects |
| What is the atmosphere? | Outer layer of gasses that surround and protect the Earth |
| What is Condensation? | when water vapor changes into liquid water |
| Condensation creates? | Clouds |
| What is Precipitation? | where water falls from the clouds |
| Precipitation is? | Rain, snow, sleet, hail |
| What is Evaporation? | when water changes into water vapor |
| What is Transpiation? | water evaporating off of the leaves of trees/plants |
| What is Accumulation? | where water is gathered or collected |
| Accumulation is? | Rivers, lakes, oceans |
| What is Runoff? | water that flows on the surface of the Earth into a body of water |
| What is an Anemometer? | Measures wind speed |
| What is a Barometer? | Measures atmospheric pressure |
| What is a Weather Vane? | Measures wind direction |
| What is a Rain Guage? | Measures Rainfall |
| What is High Pressure? | Dry sinking air and brings sunny, clear skies |
| What is Low Pressure? | Moist rising air and brings cloudy, stormy weather |
| What is an Air Mass? | Large bodies of air that have the same amount of temperature, humidity and air pressure |
| What is a Warm Front? | Steady, less servere weather |
| What is a Cold Front? | Severe thunderstorms and snow storms |
| What is a Stationary Front? | Lingering rain and snow storms |
| How are clouds classified? | By shape and altitude (height in the sky) |
| How are clouds created? | Condensation |
| How are hurricanes classified? | By their wind speed and damage that they cause |
| Example of Conduction? | Ex: Touching hot stove |
| Example of Convection? | Ex: Boiling Water, Hot air balloon |
| Example of Radiation? | Ex: Sun Rays, Fire |
| How does the sun affect the temperature on Earth? | The sun provides heat to the Earth. As the air heats up it rises and cool air sinks. The movement of air creates weather |
| Why does Weather happen? | Weather occurs due to uneven heating of the Earth from the sun. This causes air to move which creates weather. |
| What is a thermometor | measures temperature |
| What does a Cold Front symbol look like? | Blue triangular spikes |
| What does a Warm Front symbol look like? | Red semi circle bumps |
| What does a Stationary Front symbol look like? | Blue triangular spikes mixed with red semi circle bumps |
