Which organ systems work together to maintain homeostasis? The nervous and endocrine systems coordinate responses to keep the body balanced.
What is the skeletal system’s primary function? To provide support, protection, and movement while storing minerals and producing blood cells.
What is negative feedback in homeostasis? A mechanism that reverses a change to maintain balance (e.g., body temperature regulation).
What is the main function of the cell membrane? It controls what enters and leaves the cell, helping maintain homeostasis.
What does the cytoskeleton do? It helps the cell keep its shape, supports movement, and organizes organelles.
What is the function of the mitochondria? It produces energy (ATP) — often called the “powerhouse” of the cell.
What are the main layers of the skin? Epidermis, dermis, and hypodermis (subcutaneous layer).
What are the three types of muscle tissue? Skeletal, cardiac, and smooth muscle.
What is the difference between endocrine and exocrine glands? Endocrine glands release hormones directly into the bloodstream, while exocrine glands release secretions through ducts (like sweat or oil glands).
Give an example of an endocrine gland and an exocrine gland. Endocrine: thyroid gland; Exocrine: sweat gland.
