| Monarch | A monarch a single ruler, such as a king, queen, or emperor, who holds all the power in a country or empire |
| Oligarch | one of several people who rule a country or empire together, sharing the power |
| Tyrant | a person who seizes power illegally |
| Direct Democracy | Every citizen can vote on every issue. |
| Representative Democracy | People vote for representatives who decide issues in their name. |
| Aristocrat | a member of the most powerful class in ancient Greek society |
| Citizen | a member of a democracy, who has certain rights and responsibilities |
| Assembly | group of citizens in an ancient Greek democracy with the power to pass laws |
| City-State | an independent territory within a larger territory, makes its own laws and has its own culture |
| Agora | a market or gathering place in Ancient Greece |
| Achievement | something a group of people are known for being the best at during a certain time period |
| Colonization | the process of leaving where you are from and starting a new settlement in a new territory |
| Greece | a country in southern Europe, surrounded by water on three sides, and covered in mountains |
