Topic Sentence A sentence that expresses the main idea
Introduce evidence To present supporting information in an argument
Cite evidence To use information from a source to support a claim
Concluding sentence A word or phrase that signals the end of a paragraph
Annotate To make note of something important
Transfer The ability to apply learned a knowledge or skills to new contexts
Informational Essay Writing A type of nonfiction writing that aims to educate the reader about a specific topic
Thesis Statement A concise declaration that presents the main argument or idea of the writing
Broad/ General Covering a wide range and is not specific
Narrow/ Specific Focused on one or a small set of content
Hook First sentence of an intro paragraph that grabs the readers attention
Bridge Bridges from your hook to the topic of your essay
Background Information/ Context Necessary information on what you are writing about
Comprehension To understand what you have read
Hunt and Peck Reading To read just for answers and not comprehension
