What is Anatomical Position. A primary anatomical reference position. The body is erect with arms at sides and palms forward. The head and feet are pointing forward.
Name the 5 anatomical directions and provide meanings. Superior-toward the head, Inferior-toward the feet Anterior-front, Posterior-back Medial-toward midline, Lateral-toward sides Proximal-toward trunk, Distal-away from trunk. Superficial-near surface, Deep-away from surface.
What are 3 types of Metabolism Metabolism is all of the chemical reactions that occur in body cells. Catabolism is when chemical reactions breakdown complex compounds into simple ones and release energy. Anabolism is a chemical reaction that joins molecules together.
What is a Hydrogen bond A chemical bond with a weak attraction between molecules. It is formed when electrons are unequally shared between atoms in a molecule creating a partial positive and partial negative charge.
Name the parts of an organelle Nucleus, Mitochondria, Ribosomes, Endoplasmic Reticulum (rough and smooth), Golgi Apparatus, and Lysosomes.
Name 3 cell extensions and their function. Cilia - hair like projections on moves substances across the cells surface in coordination. Flagella - propel the entire cell (sperm cell). Microvilli - increase the surface area of the cell for absorption of nutrients.
What are the 4 principal types of tissue. Epithelial tissue - covers and protects the body surface and lines body cavities. Connective tissue - supports the body parts, connects and holds them together. Muscle tissue - produces movement Nervous tissue - communication
What are the 5 cell layers of the Epidermis (deep to superficial) Stratum Basale, Stratum Spinosum, Stratum Granulosum, Stratum Lucidum, Stratum Corneum
