What is pain? A complex body response we try to manage with various medications
What is acute pain? Short term pain
What is chronic pain? Long term pain
What is referred pain? Pain caused in body coming from different locations
What is neuropathic pain? Caused by damage to nerves
What is intermittent pain? Pain that comes and goes instead of being constant (variable).
What is prolong pain? Pain that lasts for a long time and doesn’t go away quickly (constant)
What is addiction? Cravings for a drug despite the risk for harm
What is analgesic? A type of pain reliver
What is antipyretic? A type of fever reducer
What is drug tolerance? Drug becomes less effective in reducing pain
What is withdrawal? Symptoms that emerge when an individual stops taking a drug
What is buprenorphine? Opioid addiction treatment; partial agonist/antagonist’
What is naloxone? A opiate overdose
What is N-acetylcysteine? An Acetaminophen overdose
What is flumazenil An benzodiazepine overdose
